SHEAR FORMING

Shape conical parts with thickness under control.

WHAT IS SHEAR FORMING?

Shear forming is a rotary metal forming process for conical parts, where a blank is formed over a mandrel using controlled pressure. The geometry is shaped while the thickness is reduced according to the forming strategy, delivering repeatable cones with an excellent surface finish.

Why choose shear forming?

THICKNESS CONTROL

Controlled thickness reduction to achieve the target cone profile consistently

SURFACE FINISH

Excellent surface finish on conical parts without a complex manufacturing route

DIRECT PROCESS

A direct path to final geometry, often reducing tooling burden for variants

IS SHEAR FORMING RIGHT FOR YOU?

For you if

– Your part is conical and rotationally symmetric

– Thickness control and surface finish are key requirements

– You want a direct route to clean conical geometry

– The part is asymmetric or includes undercuts

– The design relies on complex lateral features as primary requirements

– The cone angle is limited to 15º

– Prefer smooth transitions and avoid sharp steps

– Define critical dimensions and tolerance zones upfront

– Consider trimming/finishing as part of the process

– Share any surface finish targets early

– 2D drawing or 3D model

– Material and starting thickness

– Target geometry and key tolerances

– Batch size and annual forecast
