ROTARY FORGING

Higher precision, lower tooling investment.

WHAT IS ROTARY FORGING?

Rotary forging is a forging process where the part is shaped progressively by combining rotary motion with axial compression. Depending on the material, it can be performed hot or cold, starting from a billet or preform.

Why choose rotary forging?

LOWER TOOLING INVESTMENT

Smaller press size and simpler tooling reduce overall investment versus conventional forging

PRECISION & SURFACE FINISH

Higher dimensional precision with improved surface finish, thanks to gradual deformation

LOWER ENERGY COST

Lower forming forces and reduced friction often translate into lower energy demand than traditional forging

IS ROTARY FORGING RIGHT FOR YOU?

For you if

– The part cannot be formed from a billet/preform using a tooling-defined forging approach

– You want near-final geometry precision with improved surface finish

– You start from a billet or preform, and tooling can define the final geometry

– You forge materials such as aluminium, steel, copper, brass or titanium (hot or cold, depending on the material)

– Geometry is not suited to progressive forging with axial compression

– Geometry is not suited to progressive forging with axial compression

– Define the final geometry and the surfaces that must be defined by tooling

– Confirm whether the route is hot or cold forming for your material

– Specify starting stock: billet (cut from round bar) or preform, with key dimensions

– Identify tolerance-critical zones and surface finish requirements early

– 2D drawing or 3D model

– Material and process route (hot/cold)

– Starting billet/preform + target geometry and key tolerances

– Batch size and annual forecast
